About Mondays - The M19 Newsletter plus

What keeps us busy...

How do you actually make sure that as a counsellor you do high-quality work, don't get caught up in the dynamics of the client system and keep coming up with fresh ideas and solutions?

At M19, one of our answers to this question is the format "Monday Planning Day" created. Mondays belong to us as a team. They are our ritual to start the week well and happily.

On Monday we sit down together, have breakfast, discuss organisational matters, plan appointments and exchange ideas. But the heart of the matter is that we supervise and advise each other on client projects, workshop ideas and organisational dynamics (you can read about exactly how we go about this under "For you: To use" and try it out for yourself). After such supervisions, we are often elated, emotionally unburdened, full of new ideas and go into the appointments we face with a different attitude.

Most of the time it really is as beautiful as it sounds.

But it is also true for us: the important content-related and creative work often has to be defended against urgent enquiries, detailed operational planning and the client's wish to have an appointment on Monday. Often the days fray, are cut back at off-peak times, there is an accumulation of meetings where individuals do make appointments with clients and then there comes a time when dissatisfaction and displeasure in the team become louder. This is usually followed by a meeting in which we vent our anger and pressure, look each other deeply in the eye and vow to do better. Because basically we know that if we take the time to talk and reflect together in peace, it is always worth it.

When we tell our customers about our installations, they areoften very taken with the idea. Especially those who are confronted with changes that require new approaches from them and a variety of emotions (from fear to joy) in them and their staff.trigger inside.

We encourage them to try mutual supervision and counselling first with our help and to develop a ritual as they implement it in their everyday life (we also talk about how to establish helpful rituals in teams in our current podcast episode). And then they can continue it on their own. Because from our experience, this kind of joint reflection and sharing is a first important step towards a development culture.

Now the year is coming to an end and the time for good resolutions is dawning: a good time for experiments and new formats. Try it out 😉

Supervision in the Balint format or as collegial case consultation functions according to the motto "Getting more minds thinking". It follows a certain structure: case presentation - information questions - associations and ideas of the group - feedback & feedback.

Our experience is that the trapper is often very grateful afterwards because aspects came to light, dynamics were revealed and ideas for action became clear that he/she could not have thought of on his/her own.

Feel free to try it out for yourself with our instructions.

For you: To listen

Also in our current podcast episode we deal with "Rituals in Teams" - and how they give us support. We ask ourselves:

  • Why do too few rituals make life more stressful?
  • Why are strict rituals becoming more important now that everything is becoming more flexible?
  • When should rituals be iteratively adapted?

We'd love to have you listen in and look forward to your feedback!
